Queenstown and Wanaka: The lakeside towns of Queenstown and Wanaka are both tourist resorts & ski resorts. The majority of New Zealands heli skiing occurs within this region. This heliskiing region also has the highest concentration of New Zealand's commerical ski fields, good quality accommodation and tourist activities.
The main heliskiing location within this region is the Harris Mountains situated within the vast terrain of the Southern Alps. There's a lot of choice and thousands of vertical metres offering easy rolling terrain for powder first timers or challenging chutes and steep valleys for the more experienced.
